My last submission is, therefore, thet, if I am retained

in my present post of District Officer, New Territories, I may be granted in that post a salary of $4,800 rising to $5,400 by $300 111

I therefore have the honour respectfully to request that youmay be pleased to reconsider your decision and to recognise my exceptionally strong claims to the post of Deputy Super- intendent of Police: and to make clear the ruling that any post must carry the proper salary of its existing clas0, whether that salary is on the dollar or the sterling basis.

And I would further pray that this ruling should be made to cover the period during which (as now) I am appointed to act as Deputy Superintendent of Police: to admit the usual

privileges to attach to more responsible work on the principle that governs all acting appointments.
